To determine the frequency of an electrically maintained tuning fork by stroboscopic method
The Electrically Maintained Tuning Fork with Stroboscopic Method Apparatus is designed to determine the frequency of a tuning fork using the principle of stroboscopic observation. It provides a practical demonstration of periodic motion, vibration frequency, synchronization, and the relationship between flashing light and oscillatory motion.
In this experiment, an electrically maintained tuning fork is driven continuously by an electrical excitation system, producing sustained vibrations at a nearly constant frequency. A stroboscope generates periodic flashes of light at an adjustable frequency. When the flash rate is synchronized with the vibration of the tuning fork, the vibrating prongs appear stationary or move slowly, allowing the frequency of the fork to be determined from the stroboscopic setting.
The apparatus enables students to investigate the visual observation of rapid oscillations and understand how periodic illumination can be used to measure the frequency of vibrating objects.
Aim : Study or demonstrate the principle described by the experiment or apparatus name: To determine the frequency of an electrically maintained tuning fork by stroboscopic method.
Electrically Maintained Tuning Fork: A tuning fork equipped with an electromagnetic drive coil and an interrupter contact keeps the fork vibrating continuously with a constant amplitude.
Stroboscope Principle: A stroboscope emits periodic flashes of light. When the frequency of the flashes (N) matches the frequency of vibration of the tuning fork (f) the prongs are illuminated at the exact same point in every cycle. Due to the persistence of vision, the prongs appear completely stationary.
