Model No:SPH-M036
To determine the coefficient of viscosity of a liquid (e.g., glycerine or castor oil) by Stokes' method
The Coefficient of Viscosity Apparatus by Stokes’ Method is an educational physics laboratory instrument designed to determine the coefficient of viscosity of a liquid, such as glycerine or castor oil, by observing the motion of a small sphere falling through it. The experiment is based on Stokes’ law, which describes the viscous drag force acting on a sphere moving slowly through a fluid.
In this experiment, a small spherical ball is allowed to fall through the test liquid contained in a suitable transparent vessel. Students measure the time taken by the ball to travel a known distance after reaching terminal velocity. Using the sphere’s dimensions, the densities of the sphere and liquid, and the measured falling velocity, the coefficient of viscosity can be calculated using Stokes’ law.
This apparatus helps students understand viscous drag, terminal velocity, and the flow behaviour of liquids. It is suitable for physics practicals in schools, colleges, universities, and engineering institutions. SPAQ LABS supplies educational laboratory equipment for experimental learning and demonstrations of fundamental physics principles.
Aim : Determine the coefficient of viscosity of the stated fluid using the method specified in the experiment title.
