To determine hte coefficient of viscosity of water by Poiseuille's method
Poiseuille’s Method is an educational physics laboratory instrument designed to determine the coefficient of viscosity of water by studying the steady flow of liquid through a narrow capillary tube. The apparatus demonstrates the relationship between liquid viscosity, pressure difference, capillary dimensions, and the rate of liquid flow.
In this experiment, water is allowed to flow through a capillary tube under a suitable pressure difference. Students measure the volume of water collected over a known period and use the relevant dimensions of the capillary tube and experimental readings to calculate the coefficient of viscosity using Poiseuille’s law. This apparatus provides practical knowledge of fluid mechanics, laminar flow, and the internal resistance of liquids to flow.
